Tapti is one of the 17 hostels which house the student community of IIT M. Being one of the earliest hostels built in the campus, it retains an old world charm and still exudes a subdued majesty. Tapti is home to 252 students from the B. Tech and Integrated M.A branches. With the best of infrastructural facilities and a friendly fun filled atmosphere, Tapti is has become more of a second home for many of its residents.
Just as the river Tapti is the life blood of peninsular India, Tapti is an integral part of the activities of the institute. Tapti is home to the most studious students of IIT madras. But this has not kept it from excelling in other fields as well. Tapti has done remarkably well in all the inter-hostel events, be it sports, lit or tech. We have performed well consistently in Schroeter, Tech-Soc and Lit-Soc and The enthusiasm of all of its residents and their attitude of never backing down that has brought it this far. The most remarkable feature of this hostel is the unity and the togetherness that is evident in the hostel. Though the residents at this hostel come from different circumstances and backgrounds, all of the residents here stay as one family... Go Tapti!!.
